Monarch Jock Brief — Royal Blue / White

The straps cross over the waistband, not under it. On a conventional brief the elastic sits on top and everything else hangs below it. The Monarch runs its straps up from the pouch and across the band, so the front has three distinct lines working against each other and a window of open skin between them. It is a harness gesture built into a brief, and it is the reason this style does not read as underwear with a strap added.

It is also what makes the contrast work. Because the straps and the band are different colours, the crossover reads clearly from a distance instead of collapsing into one shape — the construction announces itself on a hanger, in a window, and at thumbnail size online.
